On Call

Jim started his on call week again. I hate it when he has to be on call. Jamie looks for him to be home around 5pm and when he is on call he gets home at 9pm or later. Jamie gets really cranky st about 6pm when daddy isn't home. At least this year he does not have to work Christmas. I've been thinking a lot lately about friends both online and ones I know who have lost babies. I know 2 people who lost 2 babies and countless other who have lost babies too. A few of them where preemies like Jamie. Some were born earlier and some were born later. It makes me realize how precious it is to have a preemie that is healthy and happy (and to just have a happy healthy baby period). Jamie will be 20 months old tomorrow and he is doing everything he should be. He isn't really delayed at all which is amazing. The only thing with him is he is still underweight! He only weighs 25 pounds. One angel, Hayden, shares a birthday with Jamie. Hayden was born 2 years before Jamie and only lived for 2 days. He now has a brother, Skyler, in heaven with him. Skyler lived for almost a month. My heart breaks for the parents that have had to say good-bye to their child(ren).

About my family and me

My name is Gretchen. I am 26 years old. I'm married to a wonderful man, Jim. We have an amazing little boy, Jamie. He was born at 27 weeks. He weighed 2lbs 5 oz. He is my world. My husband and I met at Bladen Community College in 2002. We started dating May 2, 2002. I had a stroke in 04' and he stayed by my side the whole time. We were married April 23, 2005. My dad passed away 10-16-05. We miss you daddy. Our son was born April 19, 2007. He was in the hospital for 86 days. The doctors and nurses at the NICU were wonderful. He came home July 14, 2007.
